Updated Release: 2.0 Alpha (proof of concept only) (Jan 15, 2011)

SUMMARY: This doesn't do anything except display an explorer-like view of your cacheable apps. This is a proof-of-concept to (a) demonstrate that the project really isn't dead, and (b) get any critical feedback on crashes or unhandled exceptions in the core startup logic.

I just cracked the mystery of how to populate the list of processes into the Windows Presentation Foundation-based UI. This has been a problem for me for months, and I really began to wonder if I'd ever figure out how to do this. Since the next version release is so late (at least based on user interest and my own perception of how long this should have taken), I'd rather get a proof-of-concept release available now, than wait potentially weeks or months more while I get the user interaction logic worked out.

Requirements: .NET Framework 4 (Client Profile or full install)
Time to launch: for most well-used Windows systems, 30-60 seconds is the current time from double-click to visible User Interface

I already know:

the menu options don't work
the Save button doesn't do anything
there are no checkboxes to select/deselect which apps you want to cache

So yes, this doesn't really move the ball forward as far as "can I safely reboot my box?" For that, please continue to use the v1.2 release.

But if you've wondered if this project would ever show results again, this is a "yes" answer. More to come soon (now that I've got a real working model to debug).

Converted all VB.NET code to C#.
Re-engineer all UI from WinForms to WPF.

CacheMyWork won't display applications that are already being launched at every logon via entries in the Registry's Run keys.
enabled configuration option to enable Windows' native approach to automatically re-opening all Windows Explorer windows that were open at logoff/shutdown.

Fixed

confirmation dialog should work as expected
blank entries in checklist should now have descriptive names

Re-architected the entire business logic layer to reduce the number of unhandled NullReferenceException's, and (it appears) to improve startup performance.

Refactored code to provide better encapsulation, so that the code is easier to maintain and extend.

Fixed a number of internal bugs.

WHOOPS - this release is broken (found out after upload). I'll update with v1.1.1 ASAP.

(1) First round of updates in response to user feedback:
* Re-enable Windows Explorer
* Hide OneNote Side Note app
* Hide Desktop Windows Manager app

(2) Found and fixed the cause of the problem with RunOnce commands not executing.

(3) Rebuild some of the core functionality that was lost when the CodePlex servers failed, and they weren't able to recover the source code for this project.

(4) Major rewrite of UI, based on ideas garnered from [http://www.codeplex.com/MSE Managed Code Explorer], which won't be visible until Documents can be cached.

Near-immediate patch release to address the stupid UI bug introduced in v1.1.

Fixed: the confirmation dialog will only appear if the user closes the application without using the Save button (e.g. using the red "x" in the top-right corner of the application).
